RECREATIONAL POWERBOAT CERTIFICATE

OVERVIEW

This course is aimed at people with a desire to own and/or be in charge of a recreational powerboat. The course is based on guidelines of the Ministry of Surface Transport, Government of India.

OUTCOMES

You will gain the knowledge and skill to safely handle a recreational powerboat. You will also receive a Recreational Powerboat Operator Certificate.

In some states this course may be recognised for licensing purposes – please consult your state or port authority to see if this is the case for you.

PRE-REQISITES

This is an introductory course, so there are no pre-requisites.

WHERE CAN I TAKE THE COURSE?

Please contact a Yachting Association of India's Training Centre or your nearest Sailing Club. Please ask them about our Yachting Association of India's trainee Logbooks so that you can monitor your progress.

SYLLABUS 

1.Rules and Regulations for safe power boating

  • International, state/port and local government regulations and rules.
  • Demonstrate recognition / compliance with rules and regulations.
2. Trip Preparation and Planning
  • Maintain the boat and safety equipment to safety standards for power boating
  • Maintain mooring and berthing apparatus for serviceability
  • Plan  a power boat trip taking into account all safety issues

3. Safely operate a mechanically powered recreational boat

  • Manouevre  and handle power boat in a safe manner according to conditions and legislation, regulations and rules
  • Navigate a power boat safely in accordance with relevant legislation, recognised regulations and rules
  • Anchor in accordance with prevailing and forecast conditions and legislation
4. Respond to boating emergencies and incidents
  • Use safety equipment designed for emergency incidents
  • Raise alarms
  • Use appropriate procedures to deal with on-board emergency for safety of the boat and all on-board
  • Assist others in distress
